Are you looking for a lovely resort - a place to relax and play with your kids, spend some time at the pool or the spa, maybe play some golf? John, Grace, Sarah and I recently stayed at the lovely and very fun JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort and Spa for a long weekend. We promised our girls a fun getaway after their incredibly long and difficult months serving their patients during Covid. This resort proved to be the perfect place for all of us to laugh and relax and refresh. And it might be the perfect place for you, too.
The JW is a lovely property, perfect for a family, a family reunion, romantic weekend away, group trip or corporate event. It is located about 20 minutes outside of San Antonio on a lovely, 600-acre property in the Texas hill country, surrounded by 2 18-hole Championship golf courses. The resort has 6 restaurants and the fabulous Lantana Spa that boasts 34 treatments rooms, hydrotherapy services and a peaceful pool with poolside food and beverage service. You could easily spend a relaxing day there. We treated our girls to a day at the spa, and, because we are such loving and supportive parents, we knew we needed to go with them 😊.
Insider’s Tip: If you go, try the Swedish Rest Massage designed to “ease fatigue and soothe an over-stressed nervous system” then try the hydrotherapy pools inside and then go out and enjoy the peaceful spa pool reserved exclusively for spa guests. You can order food and drinks poolside. Warning: you may have to hire someone to carry you back to your room after such a relaxing experience.
We had a ball at the 9- acre water park complete with several slides and a huge lazy river. We ate breakfast and dinner at the Cibolo Moon restaurant. The food was delicious, the ambiance lovely (had a real west Texas vibe) and the service was outstanding. I was interested to note how they were going to do the breakfast buffet in the world of Covid, but they did a great job. When you walked up to the buffet area, the servers behind the counter held your plate and you picked out what you wanted. Once you had chosen everything, they handed your plate to you. They also did a great job with single serving items individually packaged, social distancing inside and at the pools and masks (our trip was in late April, 2021).
Dinner at Cibolo Moon was also delicious, offering a wide variety of Tex-Mex and American dishes. They are well known for their extensive tequila bar, one of the largest inventories of tequila in the US. Their servers have been well trained and can teach you everything you ever wanted to know about tequila. If you go, try the strawberry jalapeno margarita – it may sound weird, but it was delicious.
The JW is easy to get to from Houston, Austin, Dallas and Fort Worth. We drove and it took us about 4.5 hours. Or you can hop on a flight from Dallas and be there in 45 minutes. If you plan to just stay at the resort, you can Uber from the San Antonio airport and save the cost of a rental car and parking at the resort which was $29/day for valet (free for self-park at the time of our trip). But if you plan to do some sightseeing, you may want to rent a car.
If you have an interest in staying at this or any other JW Marriott property (they have 33 in the US and over 100 around the world!) give us a call. 817-865-3799. We have a national contract that often includes additional, unadvertised amenities and upgrades that can sweeten your experience and save you time and money.
